Welcome to the JCG website
The Jesmond Choral Group was founded in 1966 as the St. James's Choral Group and has performed choral music regularly from that date in and around Newcastle. The Group currently comprises around 35 members and is based at St Hilda's Church on Thornleigh Road, Jesmond, rehearsing on Tuesday evenings between 7.30pm and 9.30pm.
We aim for high standards of performance and presentation, and most performances take place in churches in the district, although we have performed in a number of venues further afield, such as Durham Castle, the Theatre Royal, Warkworth, and Kirkaldy in Scotland. Many performances are given with organ accompaniment, but we aim to give performances with orchestra as often as possible. We like to perform less well-known works and introduce our audience to high quality modern compositions within an attractively balanced programme.
As with most amateur choruses we rely on enthusiastic voluntary members' help to organise and stage our concerts. The Group is very proud of its very friendly and supportive atmosphere amongst its membership, and regular social functions form part of the Group's activities. Membership of the Group requires a regular commitment to attend rehearsals. We welcome new members - if you are interested in joining or supporting the Jesmond Choral Group and would like to come along to a rehearsal or get more information please contact Jonathan Scott, Music Director.
